Asparagus officinalis
Asparagus is a hardy herbaceous perennial grown for the tender shoots, or spears, that emerge from underground crowns in spring. Crowns are planted in March or April and occupy a permanent bed for up to twenty years, cropping annually for six to eight weeks from mid-April once established.
