Capsicum annuum
Sweet peppers are tender perennials grown as annuals in the UK for their crisp, hollow, multi-seeded fruits. Raised indoors with heat from February to April, they are planted outdoors or into unheated glasshouses in late May to June and occupy the ground until autumn frosts kill them.
