Origanum majorana
Sweet marjoram is a tender perennial sub-shrub, grown across most of the UK as an annual for its aromatic leaves and flowering tops. Sown under glass in spring and planted out after the frosts in May, it occupies the plot until October when winter damp and cold kill it unless lifted indoors.
